FALLAS

Fallas was started by carpenters that worked in Valencia when at the end of winter cleaned their workshops and would burn all the old pieces of wood on the eve of the patron saint, Saint Joseph. This has been celebrated since 1497.
Tradition says that children of the barrio “Del Carmen “and carpenter apprentices started to put clothes on the pieces of wood and furniture that was going to be burned.
Then year by year people got more inmaginative & started making more funny figures like scarecrows, so this was the first imitation of the “ninot”.
This developed over the years to become what it is today with amazing statues that take a year to make and that has spread all over Valencia.
